What is “tallow”?
Tallow is the fat rendered from animals, which is a solid at room temperature. We use only fat from cows that are grass fed and pasture raised.
Why Should I use tallow for skincare?
Tallow has been used for skincare for thousands of years. It moisturizes, heals, and protects. The structure is similar to our cellular structure, therefore penetrates our skin deeper than a plant based product. Our cellular structure is more similar to animals. Tallow naturally holds vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as fatty acids. Vitamin A is known for regeneration of skin. Vitamin D help create a sun protection barrier within the skin and promotes collagen production to give cells strength. Vitamin E is deeply moisturizing and strengthens the skin barrier. Vitamin K helps skin maintain elasticity as well as acts as an antioxidant. Fatty acids help keep the correct level of oil production to keep skin looking healthy and glowing. Combine all these benefits and you have an understanding of why you should use tallow in your skin care routine.
Is it safe for children?
Yes! All of our products are simple, natural, and safe for use on any member of the family!
How do I store tallow?
Skin Tallow: Keep tallow out of direct sunlight and at room temperature. Limit humidity and avoid water contamination into tallow. Water and oils don’t mix well and will reduce the shelf life of your tallow.
Cooking Tallow: store on shelf at room temperature up to 1 year. If kept in fridge will last longer.
What is the difference between cooking tallow and whipped tallow balm?
Cooking tallow is the basic fat rendered down once and ready for cooking. Melted down can be used to as a cooking oil. Whipped tallow balm is created with tallow, but the process is different. The tallow is rendered down multiple times to create the purest form, then combined with ingredients that will nourish your skin.
Why does the consistency feel different than the last time I ordered?
Tallow consistency may vary depending on the breed of cow and the age it was butchered. If your balm feels a little different than the last time, take heart, ingredients and nutrient content is the same. Consistency can vary.
Why does the tallow feel grainy or rough at first?
Being a whole ingredient product, texture can vary. Sometimes during shipping the fatty acids clump together. While emulsifiers and preservatives would prevent this, we want to keep our products as natural as possible. Know this will not affect results of product, you just may need to melt between fingers slightly longer to get the smooth texture.
How do I use the whipped tallow balm?
To use the whipped tallow balm, simply apply small amount to finger tips, melt down between fingers and then apply to skin.
How do I use the cooking tallow?
To use the cooking tallow, Scrape some out of the jar with a butter knife and apply to a hot pan, cook on low and use as you would any other oil.

We are Tallow House
We are a small family owned business. We love helping on the family ranch and have made some of our best memories doing so. We have been involved in raised beef cattle for the last 8 years and have a deep love for them! We started getting curious a few years ago about what was being done with all the fat or tallow after butchering. Curios enough we started requesting it from each of our cows being butchered. The butchers laughed at our requests. We began rendering and using it for cooking! We love it and still use it to this day. We then got curious about other uses and started creating tallow skin care products! Never did we ever think we would be rendering our cow fat to make a skin product but we love it. The products with tallow are food for our skin. We use them on our youngest kids and send them to our grandparents. They are simple, safe, and effective. We wanted to share the love. Although tallow has been used for thousands of years, it hasn’t been a big topic but we hope to share more of our products and educate about the benefits going forward!
